TOPP continues to focus on our vision of serving the education community by being the definitive choice in alternative teacher certification.  We look forward to helping you achieve your dream of becoming a Texas certified teacher!  
 
To maintain this vision, and ensure students and alternative teacher certification candidates receive the preparation necessary for success, our policy continues to require TOPP candidates to successfully pass a content TExES certification exam prior to receiving an intern certification.  
 

About Us

The Teacher Orientation and Preparation Program (TOPP) is a State Board of Educator Certification approved alternative route to teacher certification coordinated by Education Service Center, Region 20. TOPP began providing services in 1986 and maintains a trustworthy and enduring reputation with our educational partners.

*Science of Teaching Reading (STR) applies to those seeking certification in elementary/middle
school core subjects and ELAR 4-8 certification and 4-8 ELAR/Social Studies. The TExES STR and TExES Content/Pedagogy exams must be challenged and passed to meet certification requirements.

Step 2 Classroom Foundation

Cohort 1 Fall: November 7 –December 17,2020 and June 8,2021
Cohort 2 Spring: January 26 –February 25, 2021and June 8, 2021
Cohort 3 Late Spring: April 27 – June 8,2021
Cohort 4 Summer: May 11 –June 8, 2021and July 10 –July 21, 2021
Cohort 5 Late Summer: July 10 – July 21, 2021
Training dates occur on designated evenings (Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday, 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.) and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.


Step 3 Online Classroom Preparation

Begins after TExES Practice Content Test Passed
