About Us

The Teacher Orientation and Preparation Program (TOPP) is a State Board of Educator Certification approved alternative route to teacher certification coordinated by Education Service Center, Region 20. TOPP began providing services in 1986 and maintains a trustworthy and enduring reputation with our educational partners.

Step 1: Jump Start Online Training – $200

  • 120+ hours
  • When: Access granted at Orientation
  • Topics: Instructional Planning and Delivery, Knowledge of Students and Student Learning, Content Knowledge and Expertise, Learning Environment, Data-Driven Practice, and  Professional Practices and Responsibilities
  • Field Based Experience:
    • 15 in-class hours actively engaged in instructional or educational activities 
    • 15 online hours of classroom observations

 

Step 2: Classroom Foundation Training – $650 (Payment Plan Available)

  • 66+ hours of face-to-face instruction
  • When: March 24; admissions to Classroom Foundations continue through July 14, 2019.
  • Topics: Classroom Management, Instructional Design and Development, Science of Teaching Reading, Interviewing Strategies, and ethics 
  • Test preparation to increase marketability (No additional cost)
    • Bilingual
    • EC-12 Special Education
    • English as a Second Language Supplemental

 

Step 3: Student Needs Training – $650 (Payment Plan Available)

  • 40+ hours of face-to-face training
  • When: Summer - designated evenings from 5:30 p.m.  - 8:30 p.m. and designated Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. 
  • Topics: Accommodations and Modifications, PBIS, ESL Strategies, Gifted and Talented, Poverty, and Professional Responsibilities

 

Step 4: Paid Internship - $4,095 (Payment Plan Available)

  • 48 hours of face-to-face training
  • When: One designated Saturday each month during teacher internship.  8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Topics: edTPS Topics (Instructional Design, Instructional strategies, Instructional Delivery, Data, Assessment)
  • Internship support:
    • Field Supervisor
    • Campus Mentor

 

Flexible Hours for additional training - $0 (No additional fee) 

  • Additional ESC-20 approved professional development 

Total Program Cost: $5,250 (Effective for individuals admitted on or after 12/1/19)

JROTC Opportunities

  • Become a certified teacher - $1600 
  • Become a certified administrator - $6500
