Resident Teacher Program

Resident teachers, serving as a paid classroom paraprofessional instructional assistant, learn and implement effective teaching practices while working in a classroom alongside a highly trained, experienced mentor teacher for one school year.  Concurrently, resident teachers continue to learn and strengthen their teaching skills by completing EPP training, coursework, and all state requirements to serve as an intern teacher after residency.  Additionally, the EPP provides ongoing observation and coaching support for resident teachers and mentor teachers throughout the residency.

Mentor teachers, who serve as the classroom teacher of record and support and coach resident teachers in the classroom, are individuals who teach in the grade level and subject area the resident teacher is pursuing, and have been identified by the school district as one with strong instructional and coaching skills.  Mentor teachers concurrently receive job-embedded professional development and support from the program related to effectively supporting a resident teacher.
